Judges 18

Ch. 18: Enter the people from the tribe of Dan looking for a place to settle down. It's interesting how the beginning of this chapter again reminds us that there was no king in Israel. The rest of the chapter goes on to show what a lack a godly leadership can do. The people of Dan stumble upon Micah's place and the Levite and they want him as their little luck charm just as Micah did in the last chapter. They end up taking him from Micah along with all the pagan idols and they go and attack a peaceful and wealthy Sidonian city known as Laish. They were so misguided, or maybye they didn't care, it's hard to tell. Unfortunately, the priest that they are taking advice from is in a place of pagan worship so his relationship with the Lord isn't exactly stellar. Judges really seems to emphasize the importance of godly leadership. Again, it's hard to tell whether these people really thought they were doing what was right or if they were just trying to save face. Either way, their actions were in no way honoring to God. Without a leader pointing them to the one true God, they are totally immersed in the world. Obviously, this is something that can be easy to do, especially if you are not constantly surrounding yourself with godly people and spending time with the Lord in his Word and in prayer. Have godly people that are smarter and more mature than you in your life that will point you towards Jesus!
