2 Chronicles 1-4

Solomon sets a great example for me in the beginning of 2 Chronicles. He realizes that the task he has before him is daunting between building the temple and leading the people of Israel in the way of the Lord. Because of this, when the Lord comes to him and literally offers him any wish he asks for wisdom. This impresses me because this is a man who knew that the task laid before was impossible without God. Realizing that I am weak and God is my strength is one of the most comforting realizations to have. I know I'm weak but so often I still try to rely on my own strength as I go throughout life instead of calling on the Lord of all creation.

The other thing that caught my eye in this passage was in chapter 2 in Solomon's dialogue with King Hiram of Tyre. It looks like Hiram and David were friends and from Hiram's response to Solomon, it appears as though he is saved. It would be really interesting to find out how the Lord presumably used David to soften the King of Tyre's heart. Solomon was clearly benefiting from his father's faithfulness to the Lord. That is great reminder to continue to follow the Lord so I can pass on a legacy to my future children (Lord willing), just like my parents have for my brothers and I.
