Funny Reminder of God's Mercy

I experienced mercy this morning, and no, I didn't stick my foot in my mouth and make Carrie mad... this time. One of our prerequisites for my Patient Care course in optometry school is that I have to sit for a full exam for a 3rd year intern. As with most things in life, there was a deadline. Well, it snuck up on me and I didn't get it done in time. I had my exam about a week later than the deadline. The syllabus for the class states that if one is late in having their 3rd year exam, they have to have a second 3rd year exam before the end of the semester or else they fail the course. Long story short, I emailed my professor and asked if I had to have another exam and he said that he would let it slide. Now, I know this isn't really that big of a deal, but I was genuinely excited and thankful to my professor for not giving me what I deserved.

It really was a great reminder of the mercy that the Lord has shown me and continues to show me. How often though, does my joy reflect the amount of mercy I've been shown? If not having to sit for another exam even makes me crack a smile, then the victory on the cross should have me jumping up and down and grinning from ear to ear ALL THE TIME!!! I deserve eternal condemnation for my consistent rebellion against God, but His son Jesus took that wrath from the Father that I (and all other Christians) fully deserve. I know a few people who every time I ask them how they are doing they answer, "Better than I deserve." That is such a true statement. No matter what else is going on in life, I'm doing so much better than I deserve.
